Cyprus is establishing itself among the elite of the top global destinations for retirees, recording an impressive rise in the Global Retirement Index of Natixis Investment Managers 2026 (GRI).

Climbing to 23rd place globally from 25th place in 2025, the country emerges as the most dynamically growing power in the Mediterranean, leaving behind traditional destinations like Italy and catching up with Malta. The key to this success lies in the extremely attractive tax and economic environment, which offsets the pressures on the health sector and turns the island into an ideal haven for life after the job market. The most worrying thing is that of the 367 visual inspections carried out on buildings, so far, according to the data provided by the Organization to "F", 187 were classified in Category C. In other words, they are in danger of collapse if no action is taken by their owners. Of these, 40 are residential buildings (31 in Larnaca), with most of them being apartment buildings.
