This year's tourist season is considered by the people of the tourism industry of Paphos as the year in which the relationship of Cypriot holidaymakers with this province was consolidated.
The long-term effort of Paphos to attract domestic tourism on a stable and permanent basis is now considered successful and starting from the last three years at least, it has been finalized that the destination Paphos is now included in the annual planning of Cypriot excursionists, both for summer holidays and for two- or three-day getaways.
The institutions of Paphos have an additional reason to smile along with the improvement, even the last, of the tourist traffic from abroad: As it can be seen, domestic tourism is increasing and to a significant extent year by year in Paphos, making the city and province now a basic choice for the Cypriot holidaymaker, something that until a few years ago was far from a given.
This finding is confirmed by the numbers of bookings in the summer season, mainly in August, and is considered of paramount importance for tourist Paphos given that only with domestic tourism can the goal of a year-round destination be achieved. Something that was proven in the spring and the first days of the summer months, with the unexpected decrease in the tourist flow from abroad, as a result of the travel advice issued by London for Cyprus after the war in Iran and Lebanon.
As officials of the tourism industry of the province emphasize in their statements to "F", this is the only way to balance the negative situation caused by international developments every now and then. They also described as positive the fact that Paphos has been a stable summer destination for a large portion of our compatriots in recent years.
In addition to covering part of the losses from international markets, they pointed out, the emergence of Paphos in recent years as an important destination for local holidaymakers, has resulted in a surge in business turnover, but mainly in the expectations of implementing the plans to make Paphos a year-round destination.
