The official operation of the consecration ceremony of the Pafos Hospice in Tala was marked today, with the ceremony of consecration of the charity work by the Archbishop of Cyprus George. The new Hospice of Paphos will operate in a mansion in the "Stefani" area of Tala, which was donated for this purpose by a couple of British permanent residents of the community and will be under the management responsibility of the charitable organization Pafos Hospice.
According to the president of the Community Council of Tala, Giannakis Konikos, it will offer free and continuous palliative care to patients with terminal cancer, as well as to their families, with the aim of improving the quality of life of these people until the end.
This will be achieved, he said, with the work of scientists and health workers who will offer services for pain management and relief, for mental and spiritual support, as well as counseling services in the family environment of patients.
The Community Council of Tala, Mr. Konikkos stressed, is grateful to the donors for their great gesture and assures that for its part the community authority will support the sacred cause of the foundation by any means and way available.
The cleanliness of the space, as well as the dishes of today's inauguration ceremony, are offered by the female members of the women's association "Zina Kanther" of Talas, while in the operation of the new palliative care structure, the doctor Aristos Georgiou and the architect Giannis Koutsolambros contributed the most to the functional changes required in the villa to function as a medical unit.
The Archbishop of Cyprus, George, performing the consecration of the project, congratulated the donors of the project and all those who contributed to its operation.
The president of K.S. Talas, Giannakis Konikkos, the president of Pafos Hospice, Chris Jones and the member of the Board, Michalis Nikolaou, in their greetings also expressed gratitude for the donation and for the work of all those who contributed to making this palliative care a reality for our suffering fellow human beings from today.
Today's ceremony in Tala was also attended by the president of the EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, the MPs of DISY Paphos Charalambos Pazaros and Nikoleta Constantinou, the Bishop of Chytra, Abbot of the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, Leontios and representatives of social organizations of the province of Paphos.
In Paphos, Friend's Hospice was founded about 20 years ago, by a group of foreigners living in Paphos, mainly from the United Kingdom. Without charging a single cent, it has treated some 2000 patients in the final stages of their illness with the overwhelming 70% being native Cypriots. However, the institution lost its roof to a clinic in Paphos a few years ago and was forced to cease its activities. However, the concession of the old spacious mansion of the British couple, allowed its transfer and now its reopening to meet the needs of the local community.
