From October 19 to 21, the Archbishop of Cyprus will be in the Vatican, for a series of contacts with Pope Leo and for other activities.
In exclusive statements to "F" from the Monastery of Agios Neophytos in Tala, Paphos, the Primate of the Church of Cyprus stressed that after this visit, it will be the turn of the transfer of the holy skull of the Apostle Paul to Cyprus, the first time in history that the holy relic will be taken out of the Vatican.
Archbishop George said that during his visit to the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, he will meet and have discussions on various ecclesiastical issues with Pope Leo XIV, while he will also be a speaker at the University of Rome on the institutions in force in the Church of Cyprus. In the meeting with the Pope, said George of Cyprus, we will review the course of the dialogue between the two Churches, while we will also ask for his help on our national issue. The Vatican has many embassies accredited to countries around the world and the Pope has helped us on other occasions in the past. With his help, he stressed, we managed to repatriate many holy icons from abroad.
Referring to the imminent transfer of the Holy Skull of the Apostle Paul to Paphos, the Archbishop of Cyprus stressed that he will officially invite Leo XIV to Cyprus in parallel with the transfer of the skull of the Apostle Paul.
He also noted that Cyprus is anyway a place of pilgrimage for Catholics due to the Apostle Paul's journey on the island. It is known, he concluded, that this is why the two predecessors of the current Pope came to Cyprus.
