EPIDEMIOLOGICAL RISK ASSESSMENT OF COUNTRIES CONCERNING COVID-19 - wef 31 March

Following a decision of the Council of Ministers, as of 21st February 2022 the new Action Plan for the smooth operation of flights and the operation of airports entered into force. The Epidemiological Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health has made a re-evaluation of the epidemiological situation in various countries as regards COVID-19.

The categorisation of countries shall apply for travel purposes to non-vaccinated passengers or passengers who do not hold a valid certificate of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19, and includes three risk area categories using the following colour code: green, red and grey. The countries that are not included in the list below are considered to belong in the Grey Category (Special Permission).

The categorisations of States shall apply for the travel purposes of unvaccinated passengers or passengers who do not hold a valid vaccination or recovery certificate and shall include three categories of risk areas with the following colour code: green, red and grey. Countries not listed below are considered to be included in the Grey Category (Special Permit).

A new categorization of countries for travel was decided by the Council of Ministers, following an assessment of the epidemiological risk of countries regarding the COVID-19 disease. According to the Ministry of Health, Qatar was reclassified from the red to the green category.

The categorisations of States shall apply for the travel purposes of unvaccinated passengers or passengers who do not hold a valid vaccination or recovery certificate and shall include three categories of risk areas with the following colour code: green, red and grey. Countries not listed below are considered to be included in the Grey Category (Special Permit).

AIRPORT ACTION PLAN - Wef 1 March

The new Action Plan for the smooth operation of flights and the operation of airports comes into effect from Tuesday, 1st March, according to a Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works press release on Monday.

From Tuesday, the categorisation of countries, based on the epidemiological risk assessment, shall be modified and shall include three categories with the following colour code: Green, Red and Grey Category. It is clarified that, according to the new Action Plan, the Green and Orange Categories of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) correspond to the Green Category of the Republic of Cyprus, while the Red and Deep Red Categories correspond to the Red Category of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health has re-evaluated the epidemiological picture of the various countries with regard to the COVID-19 disease.

Specifically, the changes concern:

  • China (including Macau and Hong Kong), which was reclassified from the red to the green category.
  • Saudi Arabia, which was reclassified from the red to the green category.

THE NEW MEASURES FOR TRAVELLERS - FROM 21 February

Earlier and specifically from February 21, 2022, the new Action Plan for the smooth conduct of flights and the operation of airports is implemented, following today's decision of the Council of Ministers.

For the transitional period from 21 to 28 February 2022, all passengers arriving at Larnaka and Paphos Airports will be required to undergo a PCR test upon arrival.

In addition, the Council of Ministers decided that the conditions for each category as presented in point C.2. below (passengers who have not been vaccinated or do not hold a valid vaccination or recovery certificate, regardless of nationality) concern persons aged 12 years and over, and not 6 years, as previously announced.

It is recalled that the new Action Plan provides for the following:

ENGLAND - COVID TRAVEL TESTS TO BE AXED IN ENGLAND FOR DOUBLE VACCINATED - date to be advised

People arriving in England from abroad will no longer have to take Covid tests if they have been fully vaccinated, the prime minister has confirmed.

Boris Johnson said the further relaxation of the travel rules was designed to show that the country was open to travellers and business.

He did not confirm when the rules would go but the transport secretary is set to make a statement later on Monday.

Vaccinated travellers currently need to do a test within two days of arriving.
