The Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) is proceeding with the demarcation of protected areas with buoys with the aim of preserving marine biodiversity and the effective protection of the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) in Cyprus. Monachus monachus is one of the most endangered mammal species on the planet and the number one threatened marine mammal in Europe.

Among the main threats faced by the species are destruction and degradation of their habitats due to increasing human activity in coastal areas. Overfishing is also a major threat, which leads to the reduction of marine stocks, and therefore their food, and the trapping in fishing gear.

Incidents of deception of citizens through text messages have been on the rise recently, with fraudsters falsely appearing as the Cyprus Police and demanding the payment of alleged extrajudicial fines.

The messages include an electronic link, through which recipients are invited to proceed with payment. The goal of the perpetrators is to steal personal and banking data and extort money.

For the first time, Cyprus will host the EUDIS Defence Hackathon, one of the European Commission's key initiatives to boost innovation in the defence sector. The event will take place from 15 to 17 October 2026 in Nicosia, with Cyprus being among the eight European countries selected for the autumn edition of the institution.

The event in Cyprus is undertaken by C.D. Multimedia, in collaboration with the Cyprus Defence and Space Industry Cluster, while it is under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence and the CCCI. The EUDIS Defence Hackathon is part of the EU Defence Innovation Scheme, the European framework that aims to develop new technological solutions for the defence sector.

For the Open Call for Expression of Interest for the participation of adults with disabilities (PWD) in special vocational education and training programs, the Post-Secondary Institutes of Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK) remind, noting that applications are accepted until September 21.

According to today's announcement by the Ministry of Education, the aim of the special programs is to create an accessible, supportive and inclusive learning environment, through which people with disabilities will have the opportunity to develop and enhance knowledge, skills and abilities, according to their special characteristics and needs.

Thirteen years after the implementation of the European Directive on cross-border healthcare, many patients still face financial and bureaucratic obstacles when they need treatment in another country of the European Union.

Report 2025/2206(INL), which is being promoted in the European Parliament by AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou, attempts to address the weaknesses. This is a legislative initiative and not changes that have already been implemented.

The Deputy Ministry of Tourism announces that for this year nine "Christmas Villages" will operate in all Districts and specifically in Agros, Deryneia, Kakopetria, Kalopanagiotis, Kyperounta, Lefkara, Lofou, Statos-Agios Fotios and Fikardou. The organization of the Christmas Villages for the upcoming festive season will take place from November 21, 2026 to January 6, 2027.
