PAPHOS MUNICIPALITY SEEKING TO CREATE A PIER FOR LARGER CRUISE SHIPS - Pafos Live 23/9
High on the agenda of the mayor of Paphos Angelos Onisiforos and the municipal council is a project that, if created, will contribute decisively to the tourist development of the city.
The local authorities, although they recognize the difficulties that exist, seem to be working methodically and purposefully in order this time to achieve the creation of a pier for the safe approach of cruise ships to Paphos. We remind you that similar attempts have been made in the past without result.
There have already been meetings on the issue with the port authority, while contacts are also being made at the highest political level.
The municipality is seeking to create a pier about 40–50 meters long, which will be able to serve as an anchorage point for larger cruise ships. Such an infrastructure will significantly enhance the tourism product of Paphos, creating new prospects for the local economy and the further development of the area.
The local authority is trying to limit the extent of the project in order to curb the reactions mainly from the department of antiquities.
