A matter of weeks is the formalization of the autonomy of the Paphos Hospital from Limassol, which has been strongly requested for years by the authorities of the province. This assessment is made by competent state bodies, responding to the concerns that began to be expressed in Paphos about the lack of progress on this issue, despite the official announcement by the President of the Republic during the inauguration ceremony of the new units of the Paphos Hospital in early April.
The same bodies point out that the procedures have entered the final stage and the implementation of autonomy is now expected immediately with the appointment of an Executive Director for Paphos Hospital. This development, they point out, follows the inclusion in the budget of OKYPY of positions related to the appointment of an executive director in the province of Paphos, but also three positions for operational directors, so that there is also a directorate in the province of Famagusta which operates under the region of Larnaca.
To date, the structures of OKYPY in the Paphos district operate under the executive director based in Limassol. The implementation of autonomy, as officially announced to the Paphos authorities by President Christodoulides, spread absolute satisfaction.
The MP of Paphos of DIKO, Chrysanthos Savvidis, who repeatedly raised the issue, spoke of a substantial development, which will strengthen administrative efficiency and allow better management and supervision of the hospitals of the province. This decision creates the conditions for upgrading the infrastructure, improving the quality of the health services provided and overall strengthening of the public health system in Paphos, he says. The administrative autonomy of the Paphos Hospital, a claim of years, is now taking shape, he stressed.
