An orange warning for strong storms came into force today, Saturday, with the Department of Meteorology warning of intense phenomena that are expected to affect Cyprus in places.

The warning is valid from 10:00 in the morning until 19:00 in the afternoon of Saturday, August 29.

According to the Department of Meteorology, the intensity of the rain may range between 55 and 70 millimeters per hour, while hail is also expected during the storms.

At the same time, the winds during the phenomena may be variable and strengthen temporarily, with stronger gusts.


The Civil Defense, after the issuance of the orange warning, called on the public to take the necessary protection measures, as the intense phenomena may cause problems.

In detail, the weather forecast states that today the weather will be cloudy at times, with local rains and thunderstorms. Some storms will be intense and will be accompanied by hail and gusty winds, reaching 5 Beaufort. In a storm, the winds may change and strengthen.

The temperature will rise to around 30 degrees inland and on the rest of the coasts and around 21 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the weather will be mostly clear, but clouds that will develop at noon and in the afternoon are likely to give isolated rains, mainly in the mountains.

The temperature will rise on Sunday, but remain below the average climatic values, at least in the mountains and inland. By Tuesday, the temperature is expected to generally return to around the average values for the season.
