SEA ACCIDENT - THE 48 YEAR OLD MAN WHO WAS HOSPITALISED IS NOW OUT OF DANGER.  HIS 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DISCHARGED.  CONDITION OF THE BOATS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE - Filenews 29/8 by Natasa Christoforou

Fortunately, the 48-year-old man, who was hospitalized in an extremely critical condition in the ICU of the Nicosia Hospital, after a serious sea accident on Saturday, August 15 in the Pernera area of Paralimni, overcame the danger. According to information from philenews from the Police, the 48-year-old is now hospitalized in a stable condition in the neurosurgery department of the Nicosia Hospital. As for his 7-year-old daughter, who had been injured in the head and was being treated at Makarios Hospital, she was discharged a few days ago.
It is recalled that the accident happened, according to the Police, when a jet ski-type water boat driven by a 17-year-old girl with an 18-year-old co-passenger and the two Greek Cypriots, under circumstances that are being investigated, collided with a sofa-type inflatable trailer. On board were five Greek Cypriots, members of the same family, two men aged 48 and 43 and three minor children aged 13, 11 and 7. The 48-year-old and his 7-year-old daughter were seriously injured in the impact.

According to information from the Famagusta Police, the investigation of the case continues and there is still enough investigative work to be done, after the end of which it will be decided whether some people will be prosecuted. Statements have already been taken from the people involved, while at this stage the speed developed by the two boats, as well as their mechanical condition, is under the microscope. The Deputy Ministry of Shipping, as the competent authority for the licensing of high-speed boats and the procedure for granting an operator's license, also assists in the investigations of the Police.

It is noted that the jet ski was driven, without a relevant permit, by the 17-year-old, while it seems that it was originally rented to the 18-year-old.
