Greece has been strengthening the air force deployed in Cyprus since the beginning of last March, in the last few days, in the context of the continuous monitoring of developments in the region.
Specifically, according to reliable information from the Trojan Horse, an additional pair of F-16V fighters was deployed to the 55th Combat Group in Paphos, reinforcing the two pairs that were already operating there.
Last Monday, August 24, the two additional F-16V's landed in Paphos, bringing the number of the type fighter force stationed there to six.
The measure was deemed appropriate for reasons related to the formation of things and the drawing of conclusions, with the completion of six months from the adoption of the measures to strengthen the security of the Republic of Cyprus.
In the immediately preceding days, on August 19, during the official visit of the Chief of the General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, to Israel and immediately after the two days of August 20-21 in Cyprus, the developments and the volatile environment in the area were discussed, as well as manipulations and measures for the appropriate response.
In fact, on the second day of his visit to Cyprus, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff also visited the Air Force personnel of the 55th Combat Group.
Greece, without high tones at the level of public rhetoric from the government, is following the developments and the increased Turkish aggression, mainly with actions in the air.
The increased number of F-16V fighters in Cyprus allows for better response and management of missions, whether they concern the execution of emergency air outings (scramble) to deal with threats, or training activities.
The latter, when it concerns joint training with foreign air missions in the Eastern Mediterranean region, are better served.
In the meantime, in the sea of Cyprus, the protective presence of a Navy frigate is maintained.
The frigate NIKIFOROS FOKAS (F 466) replaced the ELLI (F 450) that had been operating there since last April.
