August rains are occurring for another day in various areas of Cyprus. Today the phenomena are particularly intense and directly affect the city of Nicosia, as well as Larnaca.
Torrential rains also began to fall in many areas of the capital, around 16:00, with the Fire Service responding to a number of calls for help.
The Police warned drivers to be careful on the Nicosia-Limassol highway, as well as on Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue.In a video obtained by Filenews, a lot of water seems to have accumulated on 28th October Avenue as well. At the same time, a video posted on social media shows water descending into the Pedieos River.The Fire Service, according to a relevant announcement, responded to 27 calls related to the heavy rains, in the province of Nicosia.
By 19:30, six flood response crews from the Nicosia Fire Stations and two crews from the SupportCY Volunteer Team were working.
The calls concerned the opening of rainwater culverts, the pumping of water from flooded basements of premises, the towing of vehicles from flooded roads, as well as the scintillation of EAC cables.
The crews continue until the completion of all calls and remain on alert.
The phenomena were concentrated in the areas of Makedonitissa, Engomi, Lakatameia, Strovolos and Agios Dometios.
