YELLOW WEATHER WARNING FOR STRONG STORMS AND HAIL - MAINLY INLAND AND IN THE MOUNTAINS - VALID TILL 6pm TODAY - Filenews 18/8

A yellow warning from the Department of Meteorology for isolated strong storms comes into force from 13:00 to 18:00 today, Tuesday.

According to the warning, the instability affecting Cyprus is expected to favour the occurrence of intense phenomena, mainly in the mountains, in the interior and possibly on the east coast.

In a storm, hail is not excluded, while the intensity of the rain is expected locally to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour.
The yellow warning will be valid until 18:00.

The weather forecast:

The unstable air mass, which affects the region, has been receding since Thursday.

Today, the weather will initially be mostly clear, however in the afternoon and early afternoon there will be locally increased clouds which are expected to give local rains and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains and inland. Hail is also likely to fall in a storm. The winds will initially be variable light, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become mainly southwest to northwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the afternoon on the windward coasts or even in a storm strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 34 degrees inland, around 30 on the west and southwest coasts, around 32 on the rest of the coasts and around 25 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly clear but in the western half of the island there will be locally increased clouds. Winds will be mainly west to northwest, light and initially locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will drop to around 22 degrees inland, around 23 on the coast and 16 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday the weather will be mostly clear, but clouds that will develop at noon and in the afternoon are expected to give isolated rains or thunderstorms, in the mountains and inland.

On Thursday and Friday the weather will be mostly clear.

The temperature on Wednesday is not expected to change appreciably, but by Friday it will rise noticeably, to fluctuate above the average climatic values.
