UPROAR REGARDING THE CARAVANS - IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION OF THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR AND INSTRUCTIONS TO MOVE FROM THE BEACH IN LARNACA - ULTIMATUM TO OFFENDERS - Filenews 19/7


The publication by "F" of the unacceptable situation on a public beach in Larnaca, which was occupied by caravans, caused a stir. The incident in question mobilized the Ministry of the Interior, which untied the Gordian knot regarding which authority will lift the illegality. With the intervention of Konstantinos Ioannou, instructions were given to the Larnaca District Administration to serve notices to the offenders today.

At noon on Saturday, members of the District Administration accompanied by the Police gave notices to the offenders. According to an update by Filenews from the Ministry of the Interior, 27 notices were given/posted on caravans and other structures.

The offenders are already being asked today to leave the area otherwise there will be an operation to remove them from the area.

The notice given is as follows:


It was found by the Competent Authority that you have placed, installed and/or maintain a caravan and other objects within the beach area, without the required legal permit or approval and in violation of the provisions of the Beach Protection Law, Cap. 59, as amended from time to time, as well as the relevant decrees, notifications, conditions and restrictions issued pursuant thereto.

The arbitrary occupation or use of a beach area, the placement of caravans, vehicles, facilities or other objects without the required permit, the obstruction of the free access and use of the beach by the public, as well as any intervention or alteration of the beach area, are prohibited and constitute violations of the applicable legislation.

The Competent Authority also informs you that the maintenance of a caravan in the area of the beach, especially when it causes nuisance, obstruction of common use, creation of cleanliness, hygiene, safety problems or degradation of the surrounding area, may constitute an offense of public nuisance in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 154, in addition to any other violations that may be established.

Therefore, you are called upon to immediately upon delivery of this and no later than within the day, to completely remove the caravan and any other object, installation or construction you have placed on the beach and restore the area to its previous condition.

In case of non-compliance within the above deadline, the Competent Authority will proceed, without any further notice, to the exercise of all powers and measures granted to it by law, including taking measures for the removal of the caravan, the recovery of all costs that will arise for the removal and restoration of the space and the safekeeping of the equipment, as well as the initiation of any criminal or other legal proceedings against you.

In addition, in the event that other violations arise from the facts, proceedings may be initiated under the other applicable legislation, including the provisions of the Criminal Code, Cap. 154, for any offenses such as public nuisance, illegal interference, causing damage or other criminal act, as well as the provisions of the road traffic legislation in case of illegal parking or other relevant violation.

This is a final warning and is delivered personally for your information and immediate compliance.

Filenews also informed the mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, who expressed his satisfaction and thanks to the Minister of the Interior for his intervention.
