An interdepartmental meeting was held yesterday at the Department of Forests with the main topic being the presence of stray and uncontrolled dogs in the Paphos State Forest with the aim of any solution to ensure the welfare of the animals.

According to an announcement by the Department of Forests, the purpose of the meeting was to coordinate the competent services and to form a clear framework for the management of the relevant incidents, based on the legislation and the responsibilities of each involved body.

As it points out in the announcement, the issue concerns the protection of wildlife, the safety of visitors and employees, public health, as well as the well-being of the animals themselves.

"Any action is considered exclusively within the framework of the current legislation and concerns specific incidents, in which an imminent danger is documented," he says, adding that "any solution adopted will be in accordance with the law, will ensure the welfare of the animals and will result from the cooperation of all competent services."

The Department of Forests also states that it "will continue to act with respect for animal welfare and with a sense of responsibility for the protection of the forest ecosystem".
