Pan-Cypriot operations for the inspection of premises active in the trade of scrap metals were carried out yesterday by the Police, with the participation of officials of the Department of Environment, the Labour Inspection Service, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and other co-competent state services.
During the operations, inspections were carried out in 20 premises throughout Cyprus. As part of the checks, more than 1,000 kg of cables were identified and confiscated, which, after examination by EAC officials, were identified as cables used by the Authority.
At the same time, three premises were reported for violations, which concern, among other things, waste management without the required license and the practice of trading in scrap metals without a license.
In one of the premises, a person who resided illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus was located and arrested. At the same time, an official of the Labour Inspection Service imposed an administrative fine of €4,000 on his employer for undeclared work.
In addition, in another premises, the illegal employment of a second person was found, as a result of which the same administrative fine, amounting to €4,000, was imposed on the employer for undeclared work.
