PAPHOS MUNICIPALITY - MEASURES FOR ELECTRIC SCOOTERS - Pafos Live 24/7
A meeting on the implementation of the legislation governing the use and operation of Personal Mobility Devices was held today at the Paphos Municipal Hall.
The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Angelos Onisiforou, the Lieutenant, Mr. Andronikos Tsappis, in charge of the Paphos Traffic Police, the Head of Road Safety of the Paphos Traffic Police, Mr. Christos Liasidis, as well as officials of the Municipality of Paphos.
During the meeting, the implementation of the legislation concerning Personal Mobility Devices was examined and the data prevailing in the city was evaluated. In this context, it was agreed to intensify controls and strictly implement the current legislation.
Particular emphasis was placed on Personal Mobility Device rental companies that operate without the required license from the Municipality of Paphos. To this end, all the measures provided for by law will be implemented, within the framework of the responsibilities of the local authority, without excluding the securing of a suspension order.
According to the current legislation, the responsibility for the implementation and enforcement of the provisions governing the use of Personal Mobility Devices lies with the Police, which is responsible for carrying out checks and reporting the relevant violations. The Municipality of Paphos exercises its responsibilities in matters of licensing of rental companies and management of public and municipal spaces.
It is noted that the Paphos Traffic Police, within the framework of its responsibilities, has already made 132 complaints for violations of the relevant legislation during the period from January 2026 until today, while the checks will continue consistently and intensively.
The Municipality of Paphos and the Paphos Traffic Police point out that only Personal Mobility Devices for private use are allowed to circulate, exclusively in the areas of movement determined by the current legislation. The movement of persons with mobility problems is excluded from the ban.
Specifically, the use of a Personal Mobility Device is allowed on roads where there is a posted traffic sign setting a maximum permitted speed of thirty (30) kilometers per hour, as well as on bicycle lanes, bicycle lanes or areas that are an extension of a bicycle path and are intended for common use by cyclists and pedestrians, as long as they have the appropriate road signs.
The use of a Personal Mobility Device is prohibited in squares and pedestrian streets, unless these have been designated as permitted areas of movement in accordance with the applicable legislation.
The Municipality of Paphos and the Paphos Traffic Police reaffirm their will to continue their close cooperation, with the aim of effectively implementing the legislation, enhancing road safety and protecting the citizens and visitors of Paphos.
