LIMASSOL - STATE OF THE ART PRIVATE SCHOOL COSTING €40 million ON TRACK FOR IMPLEMENTATION - Filenews 29/7 by Angelos Nikolaou

A new major investment in the private education sector in Cyprus in the eastern coastal area of Limassol is on track.

It is the construction of a state-of-the-art, single private educational complex with a total cost of €40 million, which aspires to meet the growing educational needs of Greater Limassol, while offering a model environmental and architectural intervention.
The educational giant GEMS Education, through its consulting and operational arm GEMS School Management (GSM), joins forces with the land development company CoolSide Development to create a new modern international private school in Limassol.

It is a partnership between the real estate development company CoolSide Development, which will own the majority stake in the project, and GSM / GEMS Education, one of the largest private K-12 education institutions in the world (founded in 1959 by Sunny Varkey). GSM will fully assume the administrative and operational leadership, training expertise and integration into its global network.

The school will be built on land of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus in the area of Pyrgos.

The start of operation is planned immediately after the construction of the project, while an information report on the development has been submitted to the Environmental Authority. The implementation timeline is 22 months from the issuance of the required permits, with the project being fully implemented in a single phase.

In relation to the construction of a private primary and secondary school in Pyrgos, Limassol, the community is also positive. The position of the community leader Neoklis Christoforou is that such developments both raise the character of the area and offer equal educational opportunities to the children of the area.

In its first year of operation, the private school will implement the British Curriculum for students aged 4 to 14. Thereafter, one class will be gradually added each year, fully covering all levels of education (FS1 to Year 13, for ages 4-18).

The educational complex was designed to offer comprehensive education from preschool age to high school graduation. It is aimed at families in Greater Limassol, as well as the ever-growing international and local community of the eastern coastal areas (Pyrgos, Parekklisia, Amathus). The infrastructure is designed to accommodate 1,875 students. For pre-primary education 250 children, for primary education 750 students and middle / high school 875 students.

More than 100 new jobs are expected to be created covering teaching, administrative and leadership staff.

The agreement between the two sides is based on a non-binding agreement, expressing their common will to introduce high-quality educational services in the Cypriot market.

The creation of this new educational institution comes to meet the increased needs of both local and foreign families (expatriates) residing in Limassol, further strengthening the city's position as an international business and educational center in the Eastern Mediterranean.

On an area of 77,678 sq.m.

The project will be erected on a huge area of land with a total area of 77,678 sq.m. of the Community of Pyrgos. Of the total area, 13,821 sq.m. are granted for Public Green Space (DXP) and community equipment, as well as 895 sq.m. for street planning, forming the net development area to 62,961 sq.m.

Mainly two-storey buildings will be erected to cover pre-primary, elementary, middle and high school. In addition to the administration building and the multi-purpose hall, a modern theatre will also be erected. Furthermore, the construction of an indoor swimming pool of Olympic standards is included, as well as 4 outdoor sports fields and a full-size football field. Parking spaces are provided for 169 spaces, including 8 spaces for the disabled in underground and outdoor areas.
