Good news for 10,000 GHS beneficiaries who in recent months have paid a contribution of more than €20 to secure the medicine they need.
The efforts of organized patients and the Health Insurance Organization finally paid off after reaching an agreement with the importing company and from August 1st, instead of the €22 they paid, they will pay €8.
At the same time, and according to information from "F", patients will have an alternative option from next November which they will be able to receive with zero contribution since the generic anticoagulant preparations they are currently receiving is expected to be included in the GHS.
The change concerns Eliquis, an oral anticoagulant medicinal product, which belongs to the class of newer anticoagulants (NOACs) and is widely used to prevent and treat thrombosis and stroke.
Regarding the reduction of the contribution, the HIO states in a relevant announcement that, "an agreement has been reached with the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH) of the pharmaceutical product Eliquis, according to which, as of August 1, 2026, the maximum amount of Contribution II that will be paid by GHS beneficiaries for the specific product is set at €8 per package".
The agreement, it is added, "resolves the problem that arose in February 2026, when, as a result of the repricing of pharmaceutical products announced by the competent Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health, the contribution II for this product increased significantly, amounting to €22.53 and €22.54 per package for the contents of 2.5 mg and 5 mg, respectively".
