Cypriot citizens will have a new tool for health and not only, in their hands, or more correctly on their mobile phones, from next November.
The myHealth@CY app, the promotion of which was announced some time ago, is now nearing completion and will be developed in two stages, with the first stage going live in about three months from today.
In the first phase, citizens will be able, through the application, to search for professionals and health service providers using different criteria and filters, while on their mobile screen there will also be a special marking on whether the provider they have identified is contracted with the GHS or not.
At the same time, it will be possible to join thematic categories of patients, so that users can receive updates and notifications related to specific health issues, depending on what they wish. (This function, of course, will not concern conversation groups between patients, but digital categories of information from official sources).
In case of danger
The basic functions of the first phase include the "Emergency Button".
That is, a digital "emergency button" through which the user will be able to send without delay the geographical location in which he is to the competent first responder services that will be able to reach him using the GPS function of his mobile phone.
The purpose of this operation, of course, is to quickly identify the citizen who is in danger and to reduce the response time when an emergency arises.
Patient History and Prescriptions abroad
The myHealth@CY app will also be an access point to cross-border e-health services.
That is, citizens will be able to view the "summary patient history" and monitor and execute the electronic prescriptions of medicines registered by their doctors in countries participating in the relevant European network.
Through the application it will even be possible to fill in additional personal information, store health certificates and manage consent for health professionals to access the user's data. Notifications will also be sent by the National Contact Point for eHealth.
The connection with the GHS in the second phase
The substantial integration of the GHS services into myHealth@CY implementation will take place during the second phase.
Specifically, after logging in, beneficiaries will have access to their medical history and medical profile, as well as the records of their dependents.
They will be able to review their active referrals and prescriptions and manage the consent they give to providers to access their history.
At the same time, they will also receive notifications through the application for services registered through the GHS, for pre-approval approvals and for prescriptions that are approaching their expiration date.
The application will also offer the possibility of submitting questions and complaints, information about the health centers on duty and access to GHS announcements, while there will also be the possibility to submit an application for registration or change of personal doctor.
Data exchange with eleven countries
As of May 2025, Cyprus participates in the European Digital Infrastructure for eHealth.
In other words, it can send and receive health data in a secure way for cross-border care purposes to other European states that have activated the relevant systems.
To date, the Cypriot data have been linked to eleven countries: Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Croatia, Poland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Spain and the process of checks and approvals for the connection with five more states is underway.
At the same time, the interconnection of the HIO platform with the National Contact Point is promoted, as well as the institutional utilization of GHS data by the National eHealth Authority.
It is recalled that through this platform, citizens have access to their short medical history while they can execute prescriptions for medicines issued in Cyprus in the other EU states that participate.
As we are informed based on the European timetables, by March 26, 2029, the summary patient history, electronic prescription and electronic prescription execution must be provided cross-border by all EU member states.
Also, by March 26, 2031, through the platform, citizens will gain access to the results of laboratory and imaging tests as well as to the discharge reports they have received.
