CYPRUS' ROADS ARE A BAR FOR CARS - A 12.9% INCREASE IN VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2026 - WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS? - Filenews 9/4
The total number of registered vehicles increased by 12,9% in the period January – March 2026 and reached 13,837, compared to 12,256 in the same period in 2025, according to the Statistical Service.
The Statistical Service has announced the publication of the report "Registrations of Motor Vehicles" covering the period January-March 2026.
In March 2026, it reports, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,817, an increase of 8.9% compared to 4,422 in March 2025. Passenger saloon car registrations increased by 5.9% to 3,710 from 3,504 in March 2025.
The total number of registered vehicles increased by 12,9% in the period January-March 2026 and reached 13,837, compared to 12,256 in the same period of 2025.
Passenger saloon car registrations increased by 10.9% to 10,627, compared to 9,585 in the corresponding period of 2025. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 3,615 or 34.0% were new and 7,012 or 66.0% were used cars. Rental cars in particular showed a decrease from 1,027 to 822.
The share of second-generation saloon cars in the total of this category of vehicles decreased in the period January-March 2026 to 36.0% (from 43.2% in the corresponding period of 2025), the share of diesel cars (from 9.0% in 2025 to 8.8% in 2026), while the share of electric cars remained at the same level (at 4.9%). On the contrary, the share of hybrids increased (from 42.9% to 50.3%).
Bus registrations increased to 64 in January-March 2026, from 38 in the same period in 2025.
Registrations of freight transport vehicles increased to 1,731 in the period January-March 2026, compared to 1,448 in the corresponding period of 2025, recording an increase of 19,5%. Specifically, heavy trucks increased by 55.3% to 233, rental vehicles by 43.1% to 73, road tractors (trailers) by 34.1% to 59 and light trucks by 13.5% to 1,366.
Moped registrations < 50cc decreased to 29 in January-March 2026, compared to 60 in the same period in 2025.
Motorcycle registrations > 50cc increased by 22.4% to 1,191 in January-March 2026, compared to 973 in the same period in 2025.
