With intensified patrols and controls in all provinces, the actions of the Police continued yesterday, as well as during the night, to prevent the use of firecrackers, the lighting of lamps and phenomena of juvenile delinquency.

As part of these actions, Police patrols responded to various incidents of lighting fires and the use of firecrackers, while in various areas large quantities of timber, as well as tires, intended for lighting lamps, were located and received, with the assistance of the local authorities. In various incidents to which the members of the Police responded, members of the Fire Service were also called.

During the checks in places where people gather for lighting lamps and using firecrackers, a number of young people were checked, while in various incidents in which minors were found, their parents were notified, who received their children.

In Nicosia, after information about the use of firecrackers, around 9.20 pm, members of the Police who carried out a check in the area, proceeded to arrest a 21-year-old man, in whose possession they found a small amount of white powder similar to cocaine, weighing about 1,8 grams. The 21-year-old was found riding a parked motorcycle, while at the point near the motorcycle, 23 firecrackers were found, which were received by the members of the Police.

A case of traffic violations is also being investigated against the 21-year-old, since the motorcycle he was driving is declared to the TOM as immobilized, for it there is no valid certificate of suitability, while the 21-year-old himself does not hold a driver's license.

A number of firecrackers were also found in the province of Paphos, in an area where members of the Police carried out a check around 10.00 in the evening. Specifically, 15 firecrackers were found in a bag that had been left in an open area, of which 5 were improvised and 10 were factory. Along with the firecrackers, a knife was found, which was also received by the members of the Police.

The Police continues with an increased presence and targeted actions in all provinces, with the aim of preventing dangerous behaviours and enhancing the safety of citizens, while calling on the public to show responsibility and cooperate with the competent authorities.
