THE GREAT EXODUS OF CYPRIOTS FOR EASTER - SURPRISE DESTINATIONS AND PRICES - Filenews 9/4 by Petros Afxentiou
Bookings for the Easter holidays are moving with cautious interest this year, as Cypriots seem to be planning their trips under the shadow of developments in the region. Despite the slowdown recorded in recent weeks due to the war in the Middle East, the travel market remains at satisfactory levels.
The spokesman of the Association of Travel Agencies, Antonis Orthodoxou, spoke to Filenews, who stated that the situation in the travel market is not bad. "We certainly expected more work, however, due to the war, bookings slowed down."
He clarified that the numbers of bookings are not lower than last year.
Which destinations travellers choose
He stressed that 90% choose to go to Greece, adding that many Cypriots also choose Paris and Disneyland. In addition, London is also among the options, due to the many students studying in Britain.
Asked if there are surprise countries among the choices of Cypriots, he replied that this year's options include Georgia and Armenia, due to the fact that they are Christian countries, but with small numbers of visitors.

Where do the prices fluctuate?
Regarding prices, he said that they are at the same levels as last year. "The increase is negligible," he said.
He noted that the packages start at €399 and increase depending on the options of the hotels. "The packages are valid from today, Holy Thursday, until Easter Tuesday. Some will leave tomorrow, Good Friday."
Furthermore, Mr. Orthodoxou was asked if reservations are recorded for the days of Easter in countries involved in the regional crisis, clarifying that "no one goes".
Finally, he invited the public to come to the Tourism Exhibition "TRAVEL EXPO CYPRUS", which will take place on the weekend of April 18-19.
