A provincial meeting is being held at 9.00 this morning in Paphos on the subject of the Civil Defense shelters. The meeting will take place at the Old Power Plant in the center of Paphos.
The meeting will be chaired by the President of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis and will be attended by the Mayors and representatives of all the Municipalities of the province, the competent state services and a representative of the Union of Paphos Communities.
The purpose of the meeting is the coordination and exchange of views between the stakeholders in relation to the shelters and related issues that concern the Paphos district.
Today in the province of Paphos there are a total of 81 shelters, while after the events of the last week, the Civil Defense has already proceeded to find new places that can function as such. In cooperation with the competent state departments, the formalization of the procedures for the designation of these new areas as Civil Defense shelters is already being promoted.
It is noted that a meeting was held yesterday on the same issue in the Municipality of Ierokipia, with the participation of the Civil Defense. Great unmet needs were found, as there are only seven shelters within the municipal boundaries, which are located in Geroskipou, while in the other four municipal districts of the Municipality of Ierokipia there are no shelters.
The Mayor, Nikos Palios, proposed that the Christoforos Hatzilambris Health Center in Koloni and the Geroskipou Multipurpose Children's Service Center be immediately included in the list of shelters.
