NORMALITY RETURNS TO AKROTIRI - 85% OF RESIDENTSHAVE RETURNED TO DAILY LIFE. THEY REMAIN OUTSIDE THEIR HOMES - Filenews 10/3 by Ioanna Mantziipa
After a quiet weekend, during which everyday life in the Municipal District of Akrotiri flowed quietly and without emergencies, the sirens sounded on Monday morning (9/3) shortly after 10 o'clock. The sudden alert mobilized residents, however the alarm ended in about 15 minutes, leaving behind only a sense of alertness and a small degree of disturbance.
The municipal district of Akrotiri has now entered a rhythm of normality, with 85% of the residents, out of a total of 1,100, having returned to their homes, while about 190 residents are staying in hotel units in Limassol. The situation will remain in an evacuation state until Friday, March 13, when it will be reviewed, according to the assessment of the situation, as stated in yesterday's post by the Ministry of the Interior. The same applies to the British who live in the Bases and who have left the area.
The majority of residents have returned to their daily activities, while businesses in Akrotiri are now operating normally, marking the return of the community to normality. At the same time, as the report of "F" records, the residents seem to be now used to the sound of the siren and are dealing with the situation calmly and without the panic of last Monday after the drone attack on the military base.
About 190 people are staying in hotels arranged by the Municipality of Kourion and the Civil Defense. As "F" is informed, the cost of accommodation of vulnerable groups is covered by the British Bases, while for the rest of the citizens staying in hotels it is covered by the Republic. As far as the nutrition of vulnerable groups is concerned, it is covered by the Cyprus Red Cross, while for all the rest by the Municipality of Kourion.
