The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (Department of Road Transport) announces the following, in relation to the renewal of vehicle registration certificates for the year 2026:
- The last day for the renewal of the traffic licenses for 2026 will be Wednesday 11.3.2026 at 24:00 (midnight), while they started to be renewed from Wednesday 7.1.2026.
- Until 8.3.2026, the registration certificates of 677,133 vehicles have been renewed.
- It is noted for comparison purposes that, by the corresponding day of 2025, i.e. 8.3.2025, the registration certificates of 680,670 vehicles had been renewed.
- Traffic permits will be renewed until midnight on Wednesday 11.3.2026 free of charge. For renewals made after Wednesday 11.3.2026, the sum of the amount of 10 euros and an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the registration certificate corresponding to the amount due for the current year is imposed as a charge.
- The TOM advises vehicle owners to arrange for the renewal of their vehicle's registration certificate in a timely manner and not to wait for the last few days to avoid possible overloading of the system and inconvenience.
- Marketing authorisations may be renewed for a period of three, six, nine and twelve months.
- For the renewal of the marketing authorization, there must be:
• Certificate of Eligibility, ie MOT if required
• Insurance coverage
- It is recalled that those who had renewed the registration certificate of their vehicle for the year 2025 but do not intend to renew it for the year 2026 should submit a notice to the TOM for the immobilization of the vehicle. The immobilization is also done online on the website of the TOM (Road Transport Department – https://rtd.mcw.gov.cy). Otherwise, the obligation to pay the amount corresponding to the circulation tax continues.
- Vehicles for which their registration certificate has not been renewed for the year 2025 and have not been declared as immobilized will be deleted from the TOM register, if the amount due for the year 2025 is not paid and their registration certificate for 2026 is renewed by midnight on Wednesday 11.3.2026.
- In case of destruction of the vehicle, an application for cancellation of the registration of the vehicle (form TOM 98A) accompanied by the "Certificate of Destruction" issued by licensed vehicle waste treatment facilities must be submitted to the TOM, in order to exempt the owner of the vehicle from the obligation to pay road tax from the date of destruction of the vehicle.

- Driving licences can be renewed throughout the year only online. Excluded:
(a) vehicles belonging to embassies,
(b) private buses for large families,
(c) the vehicles belonging to the Quarries,
(d) old vehicles (antiques) with a special license (which pay the amount of 25 euros),
(e) vehicles belonging to the United Nations, and
(f) vehicles belonging to other organizations with exception code 04 (and do not possess access codes to the Department's system) for which their owners should apply to the Funds for the payment of the registration fees of their vehicles.
- No notices have been sent to vehicle owners for the renewal of registration certificates.
- It is reminded that vehicle owners must update their contact details, which are registered in the TOM register, in order to be able to receive information (e.g. information about recalls) about their vehicles.
