The extension of the application of the reduced Value Added Tax on the supply of electricity to household consumers until March 31, 2027 was approved by the Council of Ministers during its meeting on Wednesday.
In a statement after the Cabinet meeting, the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, stated that the existing regime of the reduced VAT rate on electricity is valid until March 31, 2026.
"Due to the fact that the price of electricity supply has not decreased compared to the corresponding period last year, the Government has decided to continue until March 31, 2027 the application of a reduced VAT rate," he noted.
"This entails a cost of €40 million and this measure is being promoted in the context of the assessment of measures to address increased energy prices and ongoing efforts to increase the disposable income of households," he noted.
