The Pomos dam with a capacity of 860,000 cubic meters of water overflowed in the morning hours. At the beginning of this year's hydrological year, last October, the dam was almost completely emptied after having only 80 thousand cubic meters of water. Although it is one of the smallest dams in Cyprus and usually overflows in the arid years that preceded it, it was not full. The Pomos dam is very important for the primary sector of the wider Polis Chrysochous area. Greenhouses are irrigated from this dam, as well as permanent tree crops and vegetable plantations.
In the wider area of Polis Chrysochous district there are also the Evretos dams, the third largest in Cyprus with a capacity of 24 million cubic meters of water and the small dams of Argaka and Agia Marina. The Evretos dam is at about 19% of its capacity, the Agia Marina dam at 59% and the Argakas dam at 33%.
