In recent days, the Limassol Electricity Authority (EAC) has received complaints where it appears that cunning, pretending employees of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) are visiting unsuspecting citizens from whom they extract money for the alleged restoration of electricity.
In particular, fraudsters visit the homes or apartments of unsuspecting citizens where, speaking the Greek language, they pretend to be EAC employees, and supposedly restore the power outage they are facing.
According to the data, the fraudsters seem to be lowering the power supply fuse from the EAC's external electricity panel, in order to create the impression to the tenants that there is an electricity supply problem, and then after raising the power supply safety index again, they pretend to have repaired the problem and ask the unsuspecting citizens, sums of money for the alleged work they did.
In view of the above, the Police calls on the public to be especially careful and suspicious, and in case they become aware of such or similar incidents, to immediately contact the nearest Police Station, or the Limassol Police Department at 25805057 phone, or the Citizen's Contact Line at 1460.
Note - you can purchase a padlock from EAC to lock your electricity cupboard - the employees have a skeleton key so can open the cupboard for readings.
