Two men are due to appear before the British Bases Court in Dhekelia on March 3, facing theft charges after their arrest earlier this month in Ormidia.
They are a Greek Cypriot and a Greek, who were brought before the Court on Wednesday, after their arrest on February 3. Members of the Police, during a patrol, spotted them outside a fenced area where buses that have been withdrawn from traffic were.
During the inspection, it was found that they were carrying parts in their vehicle that had been removed from the buses. According to the Police, the estimated value of the parts amounts to €10.000, while it seems that they were intended for sale as scrap metal.
The Deputy Assistant Police Director of Dhekelia, Police Officer Markos Petrou, said: "The arrest was made possible thanks to the immediate and effective reaction of our members during patrol. Metal theft is a real problem and in this particular case the value of the stolen goods was particularly significant.
"We are treating the case with due seriousness and the accused will be brought to justice. " Our duty is to ensure the safety of citizens and the observance of the law. Such cases send a clear message that the Police is in constant readiness to fight crime."
During their arrest, a small amount of Class A drugs was also found in the possession of the two men, which is estimated to be intended for personal use.

The Police proceeded to arrest a man, who was wanted in connection with an investigated case of demanding money with threats and theft, offenses committed on February 08, in the province of Limassol. The case is being investigated by the Limassol Police Department, in collaboration with the Limassol Traffic Department.
He is a 20-year-old man, who was taken into custody to facilitate investigations. For the same case, another 20-year-old man has been arrested and is in eight-day detention, while the other four persons continue to be sought.
It is recalled that according to the data under investigation, around 7.30 in the evening of February 08, while a 24-year-old food delivery man was driving his motorcycle on a road in the Ypsonas area, under circumstances that are being investigated, he collided with the motorcycle driven by another passing driver.
After the collision, the second motorcyclist allegedly attacked the 24-year-old and demanded money, allegedly as compensation for the damage suffered by his motorcycle, while other persons arrived at the scene, who also allegedly attacked the 24-year-old and demanded that he give money to the other motorcyclist.
The suspects then allegedly stole the 24-year-old's mobile phone and a sum of money and fled.

The 48-year-old man on trial for the shootings in Larnaca, on whose mobile phones horrific videos of the cruel torture of seven people in a casino office in Pyla were allegedly found, refuses to cooperate with the Police.
The 48-year-old was interrogated on Wednesday, in the presence of his lawyers and according to information, he respected the right to silence. Today he is expected to be brought before the Larnaca Court again, after the Police will request a renewal of his detention order. At the same time, a case will be registered against the 27-year-old from Palestine, who allegedly participated in the torture of a person.
For the alleged action of the 48-year-old, several examinations remain, which are related both to information about the possible commission of other offenses, and to the investigative work. The investigators of the Larnaca Police Department are trying to locate the rest of the three victims and clarify the reasons why they have been tortured. So far, according to police sources, it appears that three of the victims were tortured to pay money they owed to others, while two others were kidnapped and violently beaten to "confess" involvement in alleged criminal acts against the 48-year-old.
However, it is considered certain that this case will also be brought to justice and will be the third in a row against the marked 48-year-old, within a few weeks. The first concerns the unprecedented case of the clash and shooting in the center of Larnaca on January 17 and the second in the beating of a citizen in Pyla. For these cases, the accused was referred to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca, which will meet on March 16.
It is recalled that as part of the investigation of the shooting, two well-known businessmen, 43 and 47 years old, were also arrested, who are accused of interfering in a judicial process, since they allegedly tried to persuade the complainant to change his testimony. The two were brought to trial and are, on condition, free. It is noted that the National Betting Authority, as announced on Wednesday, did not renew the license of the BookieCo betting agencies, which are related to the 47-year-old businessman.

The existence of two children he had with a Cypriot partner contributed to the suspension of the deportation of an Egyptian who had been sentenced to prison for domestic violence.
A court ruled that before a decision is taken to deport him, the principle of non-refoulement must be taken into account, taking into account the best interests of his minor children, with the assistance of the Social Welfare Services.
The Egyptian came to Cyprus in 2013 with a work permit and since 2015 he has remained illegally. He made various attempts to obtain asylum or a work permit without success. On 1/12/2025, he was declared a prohibited immigrant, due to his conviction for offenses related to domestic violence and common assault, for which he was sentenced to concurrent prison sentences, with a maximum of 5 months.
According to the facts of the case, on 25/9/2020, the applicant's first child was born, which he had with his Cypriot partner. While the applicant was residing illegally in the Republic, without arranging his stay, his lawyer, in a letter dated 2/9/2025, submitted a request to the Deputy Minister of Immigration to be allowed to apply to the Immigration Department to submit an application to arrange his stay as an employee. The relevant approval was given on 2/9/2025, but without applying and submitting any application for a residence permit in the Republic, as an employee.
In the meantime, a criminal case was registered against him before the Nicosia District Court concerning offenses of domestic violence and common assault committed in the year 2023, for which the applicant was convicted.
His lawyer, Natasa Charalambidou, submitted that there was a violation of the right to private and family life, since the best interests of his two minor children were not taken into account, nor were the views of the Social Welfare Services requested, while his wife gave her partner a second chance.
In the Court's judgment to accept the Egyptian's appeal, the concern was, on the one hand, the existence of the applicant's two minor children, who were born in the years 2020 and 2023, and on the other hand, the conviction of the applicant for offenses of violence in the family, but also for a common attack against his minor child. " Without ignoring the seriousness of the criminal offences for which the applicant was convicted, offences directly related to his family and minor children, compliance with the principle of non-refoulement, taking into account the best interests of his minor children, should be examined by the administration anew and in any case, with the assistance of the Social Welfare Services", concludes the Court.
