A European program of cultural and tourist nature, the "Routes of the Olive Tree", also reached the province of Paphos last year, thus connecting Paphos with the wider route that already exists in various European countries.
This program has also been promoted in Paphos with initiatives of tourism agencies in the province in recent years. In this context, executives of the competent European program have already visited points throughout the province of Paphos, as part of the necessary evaluation process. These representatives are, in fact, fully satisfied with the locations, points of interest and the destination in general.
The proposed route "Routes of the Olive Tree" will cover all the municipalities of the Paphos district, 30 communities and a distance of more than 170 kilometers in which one will be able to tour the entirety partially, depending on one's interests. The interests on the route vary since they include, in addition to points of interest related to the olive tree, visits to monasteries and churches, archaeological sites, museums, viewpoints, creative workshops and more.
This tour will mainly target individual visitors who will be able to go by their own means of transport, either by hired bus or taxi, since public transport cannot yet serve the countryside and for this purpose.
The institutions of Paphos estimate that through the cultural route "Routes of the Olive Tree" the province will further enrich its cultural position internationally and will further highlight its comparative advantages in the fields of tourism, culture and traditions that are still alive.
The "Roads of the Olive Tree" cultural route, which has been declared a "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" and a "World Cultural Route of Intercultural Dialogue and Sustainable Development" by UNESCO, is expected to proceed within 2026 based on the final design to begin its recording on electronic maps and other means in order to finally be included in the quiver of experiences offered to its visitors by Paphos.
