The targeted preventive operations of the Police continued during last night, with an enhanced presence in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
As part of these operations, the Police proceeded to arrest seven persons for various offenses, as follows:
Two people aged 25 and 27 were arrested in Nicosia, when after a check carried out on the vehicle, in which they were riding, a small amount of drugs was found in his possession. A 39-year-old man was also arrested for possession of a small amount of drugs in Paphos.
A 45-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were also arrested in Paphos, when after a search of a house, various electronic devices were located and confiscated, for which the two did not give satisfactory explanations as to how they came into their possession. At the same time in Paphos, a 36-year-old man was arrested under a court warrant to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of threat and illegal possession of an offensive instrument.
In the province of Nicosia, a 34-year-old person was arrested, after two knives were found inside his vehicle after a relevant search.
During the night, more than 450 vehicles were stopped for inspection, while more than 600 persons in them were checked. At the same time, 38 inspections of premises were carried out, with the aim of preventing and suppressing delinquent behaviour.
From the traffic checks carried out, 129 complaints related to various traffic violations emerged, while 19 persons were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. As part of the investigation of traffic offenses, ten vehicles were detained.
These operations are part of a broad, continuous and strengthened preventive plan of the Police, with an increased police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action in all provinces, with the aim of preventing crime and strengthening the sense of security of citizens.

Police investigations are underway in relation to a shooting incident against a hotel complex of foreign interests yesterday afternoon in Limassol.
According to a police statement, the incident happened shortly after six in the afternoon.
Two people on a motorcycle fired repeatedly at the building, causing a disturbance. The hotel is located in the heart of Limassol and is of foreign interests. Members of the Police rushed to the scene for investigations and examinations.
As it was established, the shots hit the façade of the hotel.
The number of shots fired and what weapon the perpetrators used, whose motives also remain unknown, have not yet been released by the police.
Investigators are evaluating CCTV images of the hotel and other premises in the area and taking statements in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.

A serious traffic accident occurred yesterday, New Year's Day, around 10:00 in the morning in Limassol. According to the data, a 41-year-old driver of a saloon-type car was moving south on Ellados Street, when, as he claims, he felt dizzy, as a result of which he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered left, crashed into a parked vehicle and then into a wall, where it came to a standstill.
The driver was slightly injured, was detained for treatment as a precaution and was released today. His two minor children were also in the vehicle. The 13-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries, while a seven-year-old was in the back seat, who was initially taken to the hospital. There it was found that the child had a fractured left wrist as well as a ruptured mesentery with internal bleeding.
The child was taken to Makarios Hospital and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, with their health condition being considered out of danger.
The Limassol Traffic Police is investigating whether the children were wearing seat belts or whether a special child seat was used.

Members of the Police (OPE Paphos) conducted a search of an apartment in Paphos yesterday afternoon, as part of an information assessment related to the possession of stolen property.
During the search, a 45-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were in the apartment.
A small amount of drugs was found in the possession of the 45-year-old, as a result of which he was arrested for a flagrante delicto.
Seven laptops, seven mobile phones, two electronic tablets and a wristwatch were found inside the apartment.
The two suspects did not give satisfactory explanations for the origin of the above objects and were arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property.
