DECEMBER RAINFALL AT 116% OF NORMAL

The average amount of rainfall that occurred from December 1 to 8.00 in the morning of January 1 in the free areas of the Republic rose to 116% of the normal for the month, according to preliminary data published on Friday by the Department of Meteorology.

According to the data, the average total amount of precipitation from December 1 to 8.00 in the morning of January 1 amounted to 122,8 millimeters, compared to 105,6 millimeters, which is the normal precipitation for the month.

The total rainfall from October 1, which is the beginning of the hydrological year, until January 1 was 159.2 mm, which corresponds to 83% of the normal rainfall for this period (191.6).

The largest amount of rainfall in December was recorded at Polis Chrysochous station with 219.2 mm, which corresponds to 220% of the normal for the month of December for the specific station, in the area of Stavrou tis Psokas with 249.3 mm – 154% of the normal, at Athalassa station in Nicosia with 83.3 mm which corresponds to 144% and in Athienou, with 88.1 mm and with a percentage also of 144% for this station.

For January, between the 1st of the month and 8.00am on Friday, the average total rainfall was 0.1 mm.
