BANK OF CYPRUS WARNS ABOUT FAKE PROFILES AND INVESTMENT SCAMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The Bank of Cyprus warns the public about the appearance of fake profiles on social media platforms, and in particular on Threads, which illegally use the name and photo of the Bank's CEO, Panikos Nicolaou, allegedly promoting investment advice or investment opportunities.

In a statement, the Bank of Cyprus clarifies that the profiles in question have nothing to do with the Bank and aim to mislead the public.

The Bank unequivocally clarifies that:

  • The CEO does not provide investment advice via social networks.
  • The Bank of Cyprus never asks for personal data, passwords or funds through social media.
  • Any such communication or posting is false and misleading.

At the same time, it calls on the public to show increased attention and:

  • Ignores and does not interact with suspicious profiles or posts.
  • Do not carry out any financial transactions and do not disclose personal information.
  • It directly reports fake profiles on the respective social media platforms.
  • It confirms any information exclusively through the official channels of the Bank of Cyprus.

The Bank states that it has already taken the necessary actions towards the competent platforms, underlining that the protection of customers and the public from fraud phenomena is a top priority.
