The Municipality of Akamas is attempting to intervene again, acting as a catalyst, in the issue of the management plan and the creation of the Akamas National Park, estimating that the delay in the promotion of the works on the ground and not in the plans is extremely worrying.
The new intervention follows the sending of a memorandum to the state bodies months ago by the Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, in which he stated his readiness to intervene catalytically to solve the problems that have arisen and which have resulted in the suspension of the projects for the Akamas National Forest Park for 14 whole months.
The concern of the Municipality of Akamas is enormous, emphasizes Mr. Lambrou, and is magnified by the fact that in addition to the non-creation of the national park, the delay also has an impact on collateral activities, such as the movement of thousands of visitors to the peninsula through inappropriate roads and illegal accesses without the slightest comfort and facilitation or the risk of fires within the Akamas, without the provided fire protection infrastructure.
We expect all those in charge, Marinos Lambrou emphasizes, to respond positively and sit down at the table to agree and immediately promote solutions to the problem.
The Municipality of Akamas, aware of the situation that has been created, as the Mayor has already made public, proposes that it immediately undertake with its own crews the implementation of the first phase of the road network under the supervision of the Department of Forests. In particular, the Municipality offers to grant all the available means at its disposal, as well as its scientific and technical staff for the immediate start and timely implementation of the basic provisions of the project, under the necessary condition that the approval of the final designs as they have been formulated to date will be granted.
The Mayor of Akamas asks the authorities to immediately and with due seriousness, as he emphasizes, the proposal of the municipal authority to give a clear order to start the works.
