The Police recommend special attention, following new reports of fraud through phone calls, which continues to be committed with the aim of stealing money.
The perpetrators of the scam communicate with citizens by phone, using Cyprus telephone numbers and speaking in Greek, but with a foreign accent. The perpetrators falsely tell the citizens that their investment in an online platform has yielded profits and ask the citizens to make a payment of a sum of money, in order to arrange the transfer of the money that their investment has yielded.
According to the reports that have been made to the Police, in other cases the perpetrators, instead of payment, ask citizens to report their personal details and bank account details to them, in order to send them the money they have supposedly earned.
The Police recommends special caution, stressing that such telephone communications and allegations appear to be false and aim to deceive and steal large sums of money.
