PARCEL SCAM - BEWARE OF CALLS RELATING TO PARCEL DELIVERIES

Filenews 5 November 2025

New cases of online fraud and theft of large sums of money from bank accounts are being investigated by the Police. Two citizens in Limassol fell victim to online fraud, losing a total of €56.000, after being convinced by misleading messages allegedly related to the delivery of postal parcels.

According to separate complaints that two persons submitted today to the TAE Limassol, on November 03 and 05 respectively, they received a text phone message, which seemed to have been sent by a courier company, in which it was stated that they would have to pay a small amount of money, €1.46, to receive delivery of a postal package that had been sent to them.

Since the two complainants were currently waiting for the delivery of parcels by post, they were convinced of the authenticity of the message they received and following an electronic link sent to them, they proceeded to enter their bank card details for the payment.

Subsequently, the two complainants found that, from their bank account, an amount of €49,000 and an amount of €7,001 had been stolen, respectively.

The two cases are being investigated by the Financial Crime Investigation Office, of the TAE Limassol.

As a measure to protect against such online scams, the Police draw the attention of citizens, especially when they receive messages containing electronic links. It is recommended that the public avoid following such electronic links and that they never report or register their personal and bank details on unknown websites.

It is also recommended that, before any online transaction or payment, they proceed to a relevant verification, through the notified communication channels of the organizations or companies that may be involved.

In cases where citizens are actually waiting for the delivery of postal parcels, it is recommended that they check the progress of their parcels, either by contacting their sender or by contacting the courier company through which the shipment is processed.
