 Pafos Live 16 October 2025

The hydrological year 2024-2025 ended on September 30, with the total preliminary average rainfall amounting to 312.5 mm, which corresponds to 62% of the normal rainfall, recording severe drought, while the normal rainfall for the period 1961-1990 was 503 mm.

According to Kitasweather, this year's hydrological year was the 8th driest since records have been made (1901).

As it states, out of the twelve months of the hydrological year, one ended as extremely rainy with a rainfall rate of more than 130% of the normal value (November 2024), a month as a rainstorm with a rate of 111% to 120% (December 2024), a month with approximately normal rainfall between 91% and 110% (May 2025), a month as a drought with a rate of 71% to 80% (April 2025), while the remaining eight months ended as severely dry with a percentage equal to or less than 70% of the normal rainfall (October 2024, January, February, March, June, July, August and September 2025).

He notes that this year's hydrological year ended as the 4th worst (in a total of 38 years) in terms of water inflows to the dams since there are data (1987-1988) with total inflows reaching only 18,664 E.K.M. Also, this summer was not one of the hottest we have experienced, however it was the 6th highest in frequency of 40 in the last 43 years at the Athalassa radio station.
