In 2024, 1,669 producers in Cyprus were registered in the organic production certification scheme, of which 1,462 are engaged in primary agricultural activity, the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced.
The total agricultural land that has been included in organic production amounts to 7,018 hectares, while the total land concerned reaches 10,994 hectares. In addition, 57 organic livestock farms have been recorded in the cattle, sheep, goat, poultry and beekeeping sectors.
On the occasion of the European Day of Organic Production, which is celebrated on September 23, the Department of Agriculture points out that Cyprus actively participates in the celebrations, organizing festivals and information campaigns at national level and representing the country at events in Brussels. In Cyprus, the "Organic Production Week" (23–30 September) has been established with the aim of informing citizens and promoting the European organic logo as a quality label.
For this year, the Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, announces a Pancyprian Poster Creation Competition on the theme "Organic Agriculture – The harmony of nature on your plate", which will be held within school units. Also, in October 2025, a workshop on organic livestock farming is planned with the exchange of good practices to enhance sustainability and quality.
The European Day of Organic Production was established in 2021 with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of organic products and sustainable agriculture. The Commission has set a target of reaching 25% of agricultural land in the EU in organic production by 2030, a framework that includes the information and support actions implemented by the Department of Agriculture.
