ARSONISTS IN TROODOS - FIRE AT 9pm NEAR THE SQUARE

Filenews 5 September 2025 - by Michalis Hatzivasilis

An alarm was sounded last night to the Fire Brigade and the Forestry Department, for a fire that broke out at 9 pm. in the Troodos area, which fortunately was extinguished in time by a citizen who happened to be passing through the scene.

The Fire Department and the Forestry Department have a strong presumption that the fire was maliciously started. Specifically, dry oil was found at the scene with which the arsonists attempted to light the fire. The flammable material was taken by the Police for examination.

Last night's episode strongly alarmed the Fire Brigade and the Forestry Department, which have long had information in their hands about the planned action of arsonists, both in the Limassol and Paphos areas. Lately, as reported to us by the Fire Brigade, fires have been breaking out in the evening hours when there is no human activity and in places that are not close to a road.

The same was reported about the fire in Mountainous Limassol that burned a huge area and left two dead behind. The Fire Brigade insisted that it was the work of arsonists because it possessed the information about successive fires that broke out in the area.

As we are informed, last night's fire in the Troodos area near the Square, was extinguished by a citizen, while fire trucks from Moniatis rushed to the scene. During the investigations of the firefighters and the men of the Forestry Department, the solid oil was found, which immediately referred to the work of arsonists. The Police were called and picked it up for examination.

Following this development, patrols are intensified in the Troodos area and elsewhere to prevent and avoid the worst. As we were told by a Fire Brigade officer, if Troodos burns down, then woe to us, we will not have green!
