Yesterday's fire in Omodos seems to have started from a small amount of garbage next to a road, said the spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, stressing that the firefighting forces remain on standby in the area.
Mr. Kettis said that the exact starting point of the fire has been identified, which was located at the edge of the road, where there was a small pile of garbage. The fire burned about a hectare with dry grass, wild vegetation and garbage, while the yards of three houses were slightly affected.
At the same time, he reminded that the Fire Service is in increased readiness due to the orange warning for extreme temperatures that is in force today, Saturday. Mr. Kettis called on the public to be particularly careful in their activities, especially at the weekend, as the conditions favor the outbreak of fires.
According to him, the forces of the Service are carrying out patrols and manning observatories, while he asked citizens to immediately inform the authorities in case of a fire, so that there is a quick response.
