Following the Ministerial Decision dated 27 August 2025, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (MoEe) informs the passenger public that in cooperation with the public service providers of domestic road passenger transport, the following measures have been decided, in the context of the social policy of the state:
For the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027, the monthly student fee is set at €5, with a state subsidy of €17. The annual student fee is set at €30, with a state subsidy of €190 for each student.
It is clarified that for the issuance of the annual ticket, students will have to secure a personalized "Motion" card. It is understood that for the issuance of the "Motion" card, a certificate of attendance and/or student ID for the current school year must be presented.
From 1 September 2025 onwards, all children of large and five-member families attending Public Secondary and Technical Education are exempt from paying a fee. It is understood that an identity card for large families or a certificate of a family of five must be presented.
The beneficiaries of the student fare category also include minor children who are under the care and guardianship of the Social Welfare Services (PSS) and do not attend school. The amount of €5 (monthly fee) and €30 (annual fee) will be paid by the PSOs, while the amounts of €17 and €190, respectively, will be subsidized by the YEE. It is understood that a relevant certificate from the PSO must be presented.
From the same date, a monthly or annual ticket of zero value will be issued for needy pupils and children of Guaranteed Minimum Income (IEE) beneficiaries.
Finally, during the first week of the new school year, i.e. until September 12, 2025, students will be transferred free of charge, in order to give the necessary time for the issuance of personalized "Motion" cards. The issuance process will begin on September 1, 2025 and the public is invited to take the necessary actions to secure the "Motion" card in a timely manner. It is clarified that from September 13, 2025 onwards, students will not be allowed to travel without having a valid fare and no additional extension will be granted.
These measures are expected to benefit all students who fall into the above categories, upgrade the use of public passenger transport and attract more students to use this service.
For more information, passengers are invited to contact the companies that operate public passenger transport.
