The Ministry of Energy notes significant progress in the restoration of electricity supply in the fire-affected areas, with the competent Minister Giorgos Papanastasiou estimating that by the weekend 80% of the communities will have been electrified, either through the grid or using generators.
As the Minister stated after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, electricity has already been restored in communities such as Agios Georgios Sylikou, Alassa, Lofou, Mallia and Ypsonas. At the same time, work continues in other areas with the assistance of more than 150 EAC employees, who work in inaccessible locations and under high temperatures. Mr. Papanastasiou described the technicians as "heroes" and publicly thanked them for their dedication.
He noted that the Ministry has secured the necessary equipment for the restoration of the network, while all the necessary materials are already in the EAC warehouses, without the need to import cables or transformers.
For the complete restoration without generators, he estimated that it would take about a month, as in several cases it is medium-voltage infrastructure dating back to the 1970s and located in hard-to-reach areas.
