AUTHORITIES ON ALERT AFTER INFORMATION ABOUT AN ORGANISED NETWORK OF ARSONISTS

 Pafos Press 27 July 2025

There are increasing indications of an organized network of arsonists, as information comes to light about arson plans in various areas of Cyprus. Deputy Fire Chief Nikos Logginos revealed information regarding Orounda, noting that there are indications of coordinated fire actions.

At the same time, early Saturday afternoon (26/7) in the Paphos district, three fires broke out almost simultaneously, just 200 meters apart, between the communities of Nikoklia, Fasoula and Stavrokonnos. The simultaneous occurrence of the fires reinforces suspicions of malicious intent, while the competent authorities are seriously investigating the possibility of arson.

Fire Service Spokesperson Andreas Kettis announced that the fire burned approximately two and a half hectares of wild vegetation and dry grass. At the same time, the Police and Fire Department are calling on the public to provide any information or clues that may be related to suspicious movements or actions of arsonists.

According to information, specific information has reached the competent authorities and the Department of Forests about an organized arson plan, which allegedly aims to cause extensive fires in forest areas of Cyprus. The information mainly concerns the Troodos region and the communities of Moniatis, Platres and Prodromos.

The services are on heightened alert, while in the afternoon a suspicious vehicle was checked that was moving in mountainous areas. The Police have already confirmed receiving information about possible malicious acts of arson and assure that increased preventive measures are being taken to prevent new incidents.
