A dead dog with apparent burn injuries was discovered Friday morning in the village of Tersefanou, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

Police said they received a report around 11:30 a.m. about the dog's body. Officers from the Kiti Police Station responded to the scene, where they found the dog with visible burn marks, apparently caused by fire. Nearby, about ten meters from the body, officers also noted a patch of scorched dry vegetation.

The animal was collected and taken to the Veterinary Services, where a necropsy will be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.

The Kiti Police Station is continuing its investigation.

A coordinated operation by members of the OPE (Special Duties of the Gateway) was carried out this morning, in cooperation with officials of the Customs Department, in the context of the actions carried out in order to combat the illegal possession, trafficking and trade of duty-free tobacco products and the fraudulent avoidance of payment of excise taxes and VAT.

Specifically, after an evaluation of data, the members of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with officials of the Customs Department, conducted a search this morning at a premises in the Larnaca district, owned by two persons aged 42 and 55, where a total of 111 boxes of cigarettes of various brands, 55 boxes of heated cigarettes, as well as 8 kg and 135 grams of tobacco were found and confiscated.

The above persons were arrested by the officers of the Customs Department and after a fine was imposed on them, which they paid at the same time, they were released. All of the above were confiscated by the officers of the Customs Department.

During an investigation, 261 grams of prohibited pharmaceuticals containing nicotine were also found, which were also received by the officers of the Customs Department.

A coordinated operation at a premises in Paphos was carried out yesterday after an evaluation of information by members of the Ministry of Health, the Branch for the Fight against Intellectual Property and Illegal Betting, as well as officials of the Pharmaceutical and Health Services.

Specifically, an investigation was carried out at a premises in Paphos where 74 packages and products containing the substance cannabidiol, for which there is no registration in the Republic of Cyprus, 19 packages and 27 manufactured cigarettes containing tetrahydrocannaviolol, were found and confiscated.

All the findings were taken for further scientific examinations, while the 29-year-old person in charge of the premises in question was arrested for self-inflicted offences.

A case of online burglary and theft of cryptocurrencies is being investigated by the Cybercrime Investigation Branch of the Cyprus Police, following a relevant complaint recently submitted.

According to the authorities, unknown persons allegedly gained illegal access, in April 2025, to an electronic cryptocurrency management wallet, used by a Cyprus-based company. The cybercriminals allegedly transferred various digital currencies to other wallets, with the total value of the damage estimated at €458,000.

The Cyprus Police is making new recommendations to the public, in order to avoid similar incidents of digital fraud:

  • Choose e-wallets with strong security systems.
  • Use trusted platforms that offer two factors of identification (2FA) and advanced encryption protocols.
  • You set complex and unique passwords.
  • Avoid installing suspicious apps or accessing through suspicious links.

As part of the actions and activities of the Ministry of Customs at the airports in cooperation with the Customs Department, for the detection of drugs and illegal substances, officials of the Customs Department located a package coming from a third country with a specific person as the recipient in the Limassol district.

From the examinations carried out, it was found that the package in question contained dried cannabis plant matter of a gross weight of approximately 579 grams.

Today at noon, this particular package was received by a 32-year-old resident of Limassol who was immediately arrested by the members of the YKAN for a self-evident offense.

A search of his home followed, where a quantity of dry cannabis plant matter weighing about 111 grams was found and received. A precision scale, plastic packaging containing traces of cannabis, two mobile phones and a sum of money were also found.

The 32-year-old was detained while all the items found were confiscated and taken as evidence.
