AIRBAGS: WHEN YOUR CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY IS REMOVED

 Filenews 30 July 2025

The Department of Road Transport appeals to the owners of vehicles that have not yet responded to the replacement of defective airbags.

According to the Department of Road Transport, this is an important preventive and safety action, which involves direct communication with the manufacturer's distributor in order to make an appointment to replace the problematic airbag as soon as possible.

It is recalled that for all vehicles that had been recalled by 3 February 2025, the deadline for the implementation of the procedure is 3 October 2025. After this date, the validity of the certificate of suitability will be suspended, and it will not be possible to issue a new one, until the replacement of the defective airbags has been completed.

Owners of vehicles notified of a recall after February 3, 2025, have eight months, the Department of Road Transport clarifies, to proceed with the replacement of the defective airbag.

The seriousness of the case cannot be questioned and postponed. Defective airbags pose a very serious risk to the safety of drivers and passengers, as there is a possibility of their destructive operation in the event of a traffic accident.

"The responsibility also belongs to the owners," it is underlined. Responding promptly to the Department of Road Transport's notification can prevent unpleasant situations and ensure that every vehicle moving on the roads meets the standards for safe traffic.
