PROTEST MARCH - Amphitheatre, Molos to the Port - 31 July - 6.30pm

 Filenews 30 July 2025

Without party colour and weights, a protest event for the deadly fire in Limassol is organized tomorrow, Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 18:30. The event will start from Molos and will continue with a march to the port. It is a peaceful march, the initiators of which were ordinary citizens of Limassol who are hurting their country. Regardless of whether some have tried to exploit it for their own interest, the organizer Sofia Pericleous clarifies in her post that "this peaceful demonstration has absolutely nothing to do with parties, institutions, or any interests, party, political or otherwise".

Speaking to Filenews, Mrs. Pericleous explained that she proceeded with this post because of the phone calls that she and other members of the group organizing the event received from parties or people involved in politics. "We also found out that the poster that we created for the purposes of our event, was also exploited by some."

"I repeat, we are not a party, we are citizens. The initiative was started by me and a group of my friends. We are young people, aware that we don't just want to sit on our couch and we certainly don't just want to throw stones and blame others. We are taking action to claim for our future".

The post is unchanged

"My name is Sofia Pericleous, and I thought of organizing the demonstration for the Deadly Fire in Limassol!

Of course, having the full support of my friends, who also felt that we as a society had to do something! If anything, let's say what we feel.

My wish at the beginning was to keep my name hidden in order to preserve the importance and meaning of our peaceful course!

Nevertheless, I have chosen to say who is behind the demonstration to assure you that this peaceful demonstration has NOTHING whatsoever to do with parties, institutions, or any interests, party, political or otherwise.

I am a music student abroad and a proud Saint-Mamitissa!

Every summer my soul hurts because I know that my own house has not yet burned down, by LUCK. I hardly sleep at night in the summer. In previous years, my own village, Agios Mamas Limassol, was in danger several times. Our own fields and crops were endangered, houses, orchards, livestock farms were endangered.

We saw the fire approaching us threateningly and we were unable to defend ourselves.

I grew up watching my grandparents fight for their land. I know what it means to plough your orchards, to build your house brick by brick, and at the same time to feel that the necessary policies are either not implemented, or remain in the drawers of the Ministries and the "wills".

Last week we watched, from our village, the flames engulfing the opposite mountains and engulfing entire communities. I found myself in the area the day after the fire. I saw the endless black with my eyes, live and not from my mobile phone, tablet or TV.

The purpose of the demonstration is to sincerely express our immense indignation towards all governments that for decades have been criminally irresponsible and have not ensured the protection of our people and our country as best as possible.

I am neither a political party, nor an official body to come down with plans and demands.

The State MUST investigate and implement the policies announced by the Governments. The plans, which were announced a few months ago, should not remain in the drawers and the "WILL" and should certainly not fall into the hands of those who only think and count only on the basis of money.

The only thing I have to demand as a citizen is the safety of all of us. That's what I'm doing, that's the goal of our event. To peacefully express what we feel. Our sadness for those who were lost, our sadness and our unwavering support for the people who lost their homes and property, our appreciation for the people who worked for three consecutive days, some breathless to save, unfortunately, that it was possible to be saved.

So that we don't just try next summer, to save what is saved.

THE DEMONSTRATION IS PEACEFUL.

IN THIS DEMONSTRATION THERE IS ONLY LOVE FOR OUR COUNTRY AND FOR OUR FIRE-STRICKEN COMPATRIOTS.
