The third and final stage of a strategic planning that began with the construction of the Building of the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Management of the Cyprus University of Technology and continued with the construction of the Student Residence of the Municipality of Paphos, was launched today with the signing of the Agreement for the formation of 33 open spaces owned by Turkish Cypriots, at a short distance from these buildings. in sports facilities and green parking spaces in order to meet the needs of the students of the University Faculty in question.
The Contract, the result of an open public tender, was signed in an open space near the building of the Student Residence and the Church of Panagia Pantanassis by the Mayor of Paphos, Mr. Phaedon Phaedon, on behalf of the Municipality of Paphos as Contracting Authority and Mr. Anthimos Ioannou, Managing Director of the contractor A.N. Ioannou Constructions Ltd. The value of the Contract amounts to €2,144,926 plus VAT, including provisions amounts, while its implementation time is 10 months from the date of commencement of the construction works.
Speaking in the context of the signing ceremony of the Contract, the Mayor of Paphos pointed out that the multifunctional design of the project provides students, residents of the area and visitors of the city with a space to live and coexist, a space for relaxation, sports and socialization, in direct proximity to the University and the Student Residence. "This is not just an infrastructure project," he underlined. "It is an investment in the quality of life of our citizens, in the urban planning we envision and in the image of Paphos as a modern, green and functional, i.e. human, city."
As the Mayor explained, the project will be a complete solution as it will incorporate a variety of activities and sports facilities that the citizen can rarely encounter in the same space. Therefore, he continued, the project will be a comprehensive proposal for the aesthetic, functional and qualitative upgrade of the area, but also of the city in general. In addition, it comes to complement and complete a broader plan for the upgrading of the area in which both the Student Residence and the School of TEPAK are integrated. as well as the specific free spaces.
Greetings were also addressed by the President of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the School of TEPA.K. in Paphos, Associate Professor Antonis Theocharous and the CEO of the contractor. The rationale for the design of the project and its contribution to the new urban environment and sign of the city was presented on behalf of the designers E.Papachristou Architects LLC, by the architect Mr. Marios Papadimitris.
In his greeting on behalf of TEPAK, Professor Theocharous, after noting that the ceremony marks another important moment in the dynamic relationship between the University and the city of Paphos, praised the support that the Municipality of Paphos and especially the Mayor Phaedon Phaedon have offered and continue to offer to TEPAK, saying characteristically that "no other city, no other Municipality offered to TEPA.K. what Paphos offered". Highlighting the cooperation between the University and the Municipality, he pointed out that "the synergies we build daily with the Municipality of Paphos are not limited to building or operational facilities. Huge opportunities for social, research and business innovation are opening up before us." Together with the Municipality, Professor Theocharous stressed, we can shape a new identity for the city – an identity based on learning, innovation and perspective.
The total area of the plots under development is 21,067 sq.m. The design includes square areas, benches, open areas for sports facilities, a playground with games and landscaped parking areas.
