THE AKAMAS WAR

 Pafos Live 5 April 2025

Reactions continue for the operation of illegal refreshments in the strictly protected area of Akamas. One of the kiosks continues to operate with ecological organizations complaining that a photovoltaic system has also been installed.

The president of the Paphos EDA rejects the allegations of tolerance, while on the second day a team of the environmental service will inspect the area again. One of the two kiosks that operated illegally at the entrance of the Akamas National Park has been moved, while for the second, clarifications have been requested on how to handle the case, according to the president of the Paphos provincial self-government organization.

Mr. Pittokopitis explained that in this area, a farmer who rents the orchards of the metropolis of Paphos, in the area, exhibits the products he produces for sale.

The Cyprus Foundation for the Protection of the Environment Terra Cypria characterizes the statements of the President of the EDA Paphos as misleading and worrying, denouncing that photovoltaic panels have also been installed in this café.

Ecological organizations speak of the tolerance of the Paphos EOA to phenomena of arbitrary interventions and illegal constructions, even within such a strictly protected area, with the president of the organization bringing up the issue of the completion of the works in the park and the hiring of guards to put an end to similar phenomena.
