The Cybercrime Sub-Directorate of the Cyprus Police warns the public about a new wave of fraudulent messages sent via social media and SMS. The messages are falsely presented as coming from the Police and call on citizens to pay extrajudicial fines for alleged traffic violations.

According to the announcement, this is a malicious action aimed at deceiving citizens and intercepting personal or bank information. The authorities urge citizens not to proceed with any payments and not to follow hyperlinks or instructions contained in the messages.

In case of receiving such a message, citizens are asked to inform the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate or contact the nearest police station.
